Suspects Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 5610 Royal Palms Street

Charges have been filed against three suspects arrested in the shooting of two women at 5610 Royal Palms Street about 1:10 p.m. on Tuesday (April 14).

Two suspects, Melandey Marie Faniel (b/f, 26) and Joycelyn Marie Faniel (b/f, 21) are charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 177th State District Court.  Suspect Melki Albert (b/m, 21) is charged with deadly conduct and felon in possession of a weapon in the 177th State District Court.

Photos of the three suspects are not available at this time, pending further investigation.

The victims, ages 17 and 18, were transported to an area hospital with what are believed to be non-life-threatening wounds.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers J. Kimbrough and M. Combs reported:

The victims and other females began fighting inside the apartment complex at the above address.  After the fight had stopped, an unknown suspect, described only as a black male, chased the two women, shooting at them as they ran into an apartment.  Both women were struck.  The unknown male then fled the scene on foot.

Suspects Melandey Faniel and Joycelyn Faniel initially fought with the victims.  They were subsequently arrested and charged upon investigators learning they had urged the unknown suspect to shoot the victims as they fled.

Suspect Albert shot at the unknown suspect but missed him and shot towards other apartments where residents were living.  He was also arrested at the scene.
