Suspects Arrested, Charged in October 2019 Fatal Shooting at 5820 Martin Luther King Boulevard

Charges have been filed against four suspects arrested in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of a woman at 5820 Martin Luther King Boulevard about 1:10 a.m. on October 6, 2019.  

Demetrick Reese Rogers (b/m, 20), is charged with murder in the 179th State District Court.  Damond Terrell Diggs (b/m, 20), is charged with murder in the 180th State District Court.  Keionta Mitchell (b/m, 20), is charged with felony deadly conduct-discharging a firearm in the 208th State District Court.  A fourth suspect, a juvenile male, 16, was referred to Harris County Juvenile Probation authorities on a charge of felony deadly conduct.   All are charged in the shooting of Mark Barnes-Calvin, 23, and Brooklyn Rouse, 20.  Mr. Barnes-Calvin died at the scene and Ms. Rouse was transported to an area hospital where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the head and recovered.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeants J. Brooks and C. Cegielski reported:

A large group was gathered in a parking lot at the above address when a group of individuals, armed with handguns, fired shots into the crowded parking lot.  Barnes-Calvin and Rouse were struck by the gunfire.  At that time, there were no known suspects.

Further investigation identified Rogers, Mitchell and Diggs as suspects in this case.  Rogers and the juvenile male were taken into custody on unrelated charges and subsequently charged for their roles in the shooting.  Mitchell was arrested in December 5, 2019 and charged for his role in the incident.  Diggs was taken into custody on Tuesday (January 26) and charged for his involvement in the death of Barnes-Calvin.
