Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Stabbing at 2424 Sakowitz Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal stabbing of a woman at 2424 Sakowitz Street about 7:10 p.m. on Saturday (July 29).

The suspect, Marques Kelvin Potts, 58, is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court.  A June booking photo of Potts, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased woman, 43, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives N. Henderson and L. Patterson reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex at the above address following reports of a woman in an apartment pleading for help.  When police and emergency personnel arrived, a woman was found unresponsive in the entrance of her apartment.  Paramedics pronounced her deceased from multiple stab wounds.

Further investigation, evidence from the scene and witness statements identified Potts as the suspect in this case.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and a murder charge was filed.  Potts remains at-large.
