Suspect Charged, Wanted in Fatal Shooting at 7221 Springdale Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 7221 Springdale Street about 1:25 p.m. on Wednesday (November 20).

The suspect, Johnathan Clay Helaire (b/m, 46), is charged with murder in the 248th State District Court.  He is accused in the death of Corey Jones, 48, who was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Brown and C. Sharp reported:

Mr. Jones and suspect Helaire got into an argument over stolen property from their shared residence.  According to witnesses, Helaire pulled out a pistol and shot Jones in the head at close range.  Helaire then fled the scene.  Paramedics transported Jones to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
