Charges have been filed against a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of a man and the wounding of woman at 1500 Bailey Street about 1 p.m. on January 23.
The suspect, Corey Dontaye James, 21, is charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 338th State District Court. A February 2024 booking photo of James, who is not in custody, is attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased male, 21, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. The female victim, 56, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant A. Lopez and Detective N. Sharp reported:
According to witnesses, the victim and the suspect got into a verbal altercation regarding a gaming console. The altercation escalated to a physical fight and other persons attempted to break up the fight. As the male and the suspect were separated, the suspect pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots, striking the male and one of the persons attempting to stop the fight.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victims to an area hospital, where the male was pronounced deceased.
Further investigation identified the suspect as James. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and James was subsequently charged. James remains at-large.
