Houston police are investigating the fatal crash that occurred at 6100 Westheimer Road about 10:10 a.m. today (June 4).
The suspect, Jordan Marqui Grant (b/m, 26) is charged with manslaughter in the 248th State District Court. A booking photo of Grant, who is hospitalized, is not available at this time.
The identity of the deceased male, 71, is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant K. Harris and Officer J. Gaona reported:
The victim was driving a gold Toyota Prius westbound on Westheimer when he failed to yield the right of way and turned left in front of a black Lexus ES-350 traveling eastbound on Westheimer. Both vehicles continued north across the roadway, struck the curb and then struck a parked black Volvo XC90.
The driver of the Prius was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Lexus, Grant, was transported to Memorial Hermann Southwest where he was treated for a broken bone.
A preliminary investigation indicated although the driver of the Prius failed to yield the right of way, Grant was traveling at a high rate of speed which was determined to be a factor in the crash. Grant, who was determined not to be intoxicated, was subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
The investigation is continuing.
