HPD Homicide Division Detectives C. Arrington and L. Osborn reported:
On November 28, at about 7:45 a.m., Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a report of a reckless driver. When they attempted to stop the driver (Campbell), a pursuit ensued. After Campbell was stopped, DPS troopers searched his vehicle and discovered Ms. Johnson’s body in the trunk. Campbell was taken into custody and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
DPS Texas Rangers opened an investigation, which led them to 4118 Maggie Street in Houston where they requested assistance from the HPD Homicide Division. The Rangers obtained a search warrant for the residence and a Houston Forensic Science Center Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene to conduct a thorough scene examination.
The joint investigation by the Texas Rangers and HPD homicide investigators, and evidence from the scene, indicated Campbell killed Ms. Johnson at the above address in the hours preceding his arrest by DPS.
On Monday (December 7), Campbell was charged for his role in Johnson’s death. Campbell remains in custody in the Jefferson County Jail on charges filed by Texas DPS.
