Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 8162 Richmond Avenue

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a woman at 8162 Richmond Avenue about 1:20 p.m. on Wednesday (March 6).

The suspect, Laniyah E. Decembly, 21, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 230th State District Court.  A booking photo of Decembly is attached to this news release.

The victim, 22, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Sergeant C. Bartlett and Detective A. Chheav reported:

The victim and Decembly had been in a dating relationship for several months and had recently ended the relationship.  The victim went to Decembly’s residence and attempted to fight her.  She began beating on the front door and eventually broke a window with a brick.  Decembly then fired a shot through the window and struck a nearby parked vehicle.  Armed with the gun, Decembly then exited her residence, chased the victim and shot at her at least two more times.  The victim was struck in the hand.

Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital.  Decembly was detained at the scene and subsequently charged by the Harris County District Attorney’s Office for her role in the shooting.
