Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 8000 West Tidwell Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man that occurred at 8000 West Tidwell Road about 3:40 p.m. on Saturday (May 9).

The suspect, Khahli Deshun Wheeler (b/m, 27), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, manufacturing/delivery of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in the 339th State District Court.  A booking photo of Wheeler is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the shooting of Adrian Salazar, 27, who was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Officers J. Kimbrough and M. Combs reported:

Mr. Salazar and Wheeler got into an argument the previous day as Salazar delivered food to a friend at an apartment complex.  On Saturday (May 9), Salazar was traveling as a passenger in his wife’s car.  She stopped the vehicle at the above address and Salazar exited to check the tail light.  As Wheeler was walking by in the parking lot of a nearby gas station, he saw Salazar, pulled out a gun and began yelling in his direction.

Wheeler then shot at Salazar and struck him in both legs.  Wheeler fled on foot to an apartment complex at the above address.  Salazar got back into his wife’s vehicle and she drove him to an area hospital.

While HPD officers were at the scene, they received an anonymous tip regarding Wheeler fleeing into an apartment.  Further investigation identified Wheeler’s location and he was arrested without incident.  Officers recovered the possible weapon used in the shooting and illegal narcotics.  Wheeler was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
