Suspect Arrested, Charged in Shooting at 5334 Washington Avenue

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a woman at 5334 Washington Avenue 2:20 a.m. on November 7.

The suspect, Eddy Javier Oyuela, 22, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 208th State District Court. A booking photo of Oyuela is attached to this news release.

The victim, 21, was transported to an area hospital in stable condition.

HPD Major Assaults and Family Violence Division Sergeant V. Garcia and Detective D. Crandall reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting in the parking lot of a business at the above address and found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds to her legs. The victim told officers she was involved in an altercation with another female that turned physical.  A male suspect accompanying the other female produced a weapon from a vehicle and fired multiple times at the victim, striking her.  Both suspects fled the scene in a white Jeep Gladiator westbound on Washington Avenue. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital.

Further investigation identified Oyuela as the suspect in this incident. Members of HPD Central Division Crime Suppression Team arrested him on Wednesday (November 30).  Oyuela admitted to his role in the shooting and was subsequently charged.
