| Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the shooting of a man at 5247 Browncroft Street about 7:10 p.m. on Tuesday (October 6).
The suspect, Alex Christopher Cheek (b/m, 59), is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 174th State District Court. He is accused in the shooting of James Rice, 72, who was transported to an area hospital in an unknown condition.

HPD Major Assaults’ & Family Violence Division Officer B. Cerritos reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the above address and found Mr. James and Cheek, who are roommates, had gotten into a verbal altercation. Cheek got upset and shot Rice in the lower body. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Rice to the hospital. Cheek was taken into custody at the scene.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was consulted and Cheek was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
