HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Grimes and K. Persad reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a family disturbance call at the above address and found Mr. Giles unresponsive and not breathing inside the residence.  Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and transported Giles to the hospital.

According to witnesses, Giles was assaulted by his son, Neely, who appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.  Neely also assaulted his mother and then fled the scene and barricaded himself inside his residence.  The HPD SWAT and Hostage Negotiations teams responded to the scene and Neely was taken into custody several hours later.

Homicide investigators were advised by doctors at Ben Taub General Hospital that Giles was pronounced deceased on Sunday (September 5).  Charges are expected to be upgraded once the autopsy is completed by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
