Suspect Arrested, Charged in Man’s Death at 3700 Burkett Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the death of a man following an incident that occurred at 3700 Burkett Street about 4 p.m. on January 2.

The suspect, Cedric Hardin-Jones (b/m, 22), is charged with aggravated assault of a family member in the 262nd State District Court.  He is accused in the death of his father, David Jones, 62, who was transported to Methodist Hospital with severe head trauma.  Doctors pronounced him deceased on Tuesday (January 29).

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. Holbrook and Detective J. Roscoe reported:

On January 2, David Jones was transported by HFD paramedics from his residence at the above address to the hospital with a severe head injury.  Hardin-Jones admitted to family members he had gotten into a dispute with his father and punched him, causing him to fall down.  Hardin-Jones was taken into custody on Thursday (January 31) by the HPD Clear Lake Patrol Division Crime Suppression Team and found him to be in possession of a loaded AR-15 assault rifle.

Charges may be upgraded pending Jones' cause of death, to be determined by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
