A suspect wanted and charged in separate fatal shooting incidents in 2007 and 2008 is in custody.
The suspect, Juan Gonzalez, Jr., 44, is charged with two counts of murder in the 179th State District Court. A booking photo of Gonzalez is attached to this news release.
He is accused for his role in the death of Richard Lee Ambriz, 46, on January 2, 2007 and for the death of Kevin Alfred, 15, at 100 Super Street on March 12, 2008.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant R. Rodriguez and Detective R. Cervantes reported:
About 1:05 a.m. on January 2, 2007, an unknown suspect was involved in the planning and carrying out of a home invasion with at least five other suspects at a residence at 311 Super Street. During the incident, one of the suspects (Ambriz) also participating in the home invasion was fatally shot.
About 5:25 p.m. on March 12, 2008, an unknown suspect driving a black Dodge Magnum, drove past a male victim (Kevin Alfred) and two other individuals in the 100 block of Super Street. The suspect turned around and got into an argument with the group. A short time later, the suspect fatally shot Alfred.
The investigation into the March 12 shooting led to the identity of Gonzalez as the suspect. The following week (on March 18), he was charged in that case.
Further investigation also identified Gonzalez as the suspect in the 2007 home invasion incident. On July 23, 2008, he was charged in that incident.
A tip was recently received on Gonzalez’s whereabouts in Mexico. Thanks to efforts of the U.S. Marshals and FBI Houston offices, Gonzalez was located and arrested in Morelos, Mexico, on Saturday (Aug. 31). The following day, he was flown to Houston, was questioned and then booked into the Harris County Jail.
