Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 5500 De Soto Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of one woman and the wounding of a man and a woman at 5500 De Soto Street about 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday (May 26).  

The suspect, Tayo O. Brown (b/m, 40), is charged with one count of murder and two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 177th State District Court.  A booking photo of Brown is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased female victim is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  The surviving male and female victims were transported to an area hospital in unknown conditions.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant E. Wohlgemuth and Detective D. Williamson reported:

A male suspect, later identified as Tayo, shot a female and a male at the entrance of an apartment complex at the above address before walking into the street and shooting a passing female motorist.  Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the first female deceased at the scene.  They then transported the male and the female motorist to a hospital.

An HPD officer working an extra job at the apartment complex heard the gunshots and detained Tayo without further incident.  Tayo was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
