Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 4839 Callery Creek Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 4839 Callery Creek Drive about 10:35 p.m. on Saturday (September 5).

The suspect, Zerrick DeWayne McConico (b/m, 20), is charged with murder in the 262nd State District Court.  A photo of McConico is attached to this news release.

The identity of the victim, 21, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Horn and Detective K. McDonald reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a reported shooting at a residence at the above address.  Upon arrival, they found the victim lying on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.  He was transported by Houston Fire Department paramedics to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

The suspect, McConico, initially fled the scene, however he returned and told officers he had been defending himself when the shooting occurred.  During a subsequent interview with investigators, McConico admitted to shooting the victim when he (victim) refused to leave the home.
