Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 3903 Erby Street

Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting of a man at 3903 Erby Street about 6 p.m. on Saturday (February 25).

Christopher Mares, 18, is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court.  A booking photo of Mares is attached to this news release.

The victim, Jose Mares, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Finlay and L. Kauffman reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a person down call at an apartment  complex at the above address and were told by several witnesses that one male (Mr. Jose Mares) was found with multiple gunshot wounds in a bedroom closet.

A preliminary investigation determined Mares’ brother, Christopher Mares shot him and then fled the scene in an unknown direction.  Later, suspect Mares turned himself in and was subsequently charged for his role in the shooting.
