Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Shooting at 3702 Babbling Creek Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a woman at 3702 Babbling Creek Drive about 2:35 p.m. on Sunday (May 26).

The suspect, Byron Keith Hall, 29, is charged with murder, aggravated assault against a public servant and aggravated assault of a family member in the 263rd State District Court.  A booking photo of Hall is attached to this news release.

Hall is accused in the killing of his sister, Taylor Ben, 25.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives E. Camacho and A. Finlay reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at a residence at the above address and, as officers arrived, a male suspect began shooting at them.  As officers took cover behind their patrol vehicles, the suspect continued to fire an assault-style rifle at officers from the driveway of the residence.  A few minutes later, the suspect walked toward the officers with his hands in the air.  Officers gave the suspect verbal commands and arrested him without further incident.

Officers then entered the residence and found an unresponsive woman (Ms. Ben) with gunshot wounds, and two juveniles, a 4 year-old male and a 16-year-old female, inside the residence.  Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Ben deceased.  The juveniles were unharmed and placed in the custody of family members.

Further investigation determined the suspect, identified as Hall, had gotten into a physical altercation with his sister, Ben, who he fatally shot during the altercation.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Hall was subsequently charged and booked into the Harris County Jail.
