Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man that occurred at 17557 Imperial Valley Drive about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday (Jan. 6).
The suspect, Anthony Demarcus Montgomery (b/m, 24) is charged with murder in the 182nd State District Court. A photo of Montgomery is not available at this time, pending further investigation.
The victim, Kodjo Yabi, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Horn and Detectives I. Ulloa, R. Pemberton and S. Spivey reported:
Mr. Yabi, the manager of a salon business at the above address, was collecting entrance fees from patrons because the venue was hosting a small concert after normal business hours. As Yabi protected the business, he was armed with a gun. An unknown suspect took the gun from Yabi and then shot him at least one time. The suspect fled with the gun and money he had stolen from Yabi. Paramedics pronounced Yabi deceased at the scene.
Further investigation led to the identification of Montgomery as the suspect in this case and, on January 12, he was arrested without incident.
