Houston police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a man at 1446 Sherwood Forest Drive about 11 p.m. on Friday (May 2).
The suspect, Nexon Camacho, 22, is charged with murder in the 180th State District Court. A booking photo of Camacho is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Mario Vargas, 40.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Nielsen and Detective K. Hale reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at the above address and located a male, Mr. Vargas, lying in the parking lot suffering from a gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Vargas deceased at the location.
Multiple witnesses identified Camacho as the shooter and he was located at Greater Heights Memorial Hermann Hospital for a gunshot wound to the hand. He admitted to his role in the shooting of Vargas and stated he sustained a self-inflicted gunshot wound during the incident.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Camacho was subsequently charged.
