HPD Homicide Division Detectives J. Jorsch, D. Lunceford, V. Nguyen and K. Sampson reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting in the 700 block of West Rankin Road and found an unresponsive male in a vehicle with a gunshot wound.  Houston Fire Department paramedics transported the male to an area hospital in critical condition.  Doctors later pronounced the male, identified as Mr. Estrada, deceased.

A preliminary investigation determined the shooting occurred at 13611 Ella Boulevard at a gas station.  According to witnesses, a male suspect fired multiple shots at Estrada’s vehicle, striking Estrada.  The other four male passengers, ages 16, 16, 17, and 18, in the vehicle were not injured.  The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

Further investigation, witness statements and evidence collected identified Barley as the suspect in this case.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and, on Sunday (April 14), a murder and four aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charges were filed.

On Monday (April 15), members of the HPD North Belt Crime Suppression Team located Barley at 8430 Antoine Drive. He pointed a weapon at officers as they attempted to take him into custody.  One sergeant discharged his duty weapon. No one was injured and Barley was subsequently arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail.
