Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal shooting that occurred at 10100 Mesa Drive about 1:20 a.m. on Sunday (Sept. 27).
Diego Gene Torres, 18, is charged with capital murder in the 248th Criminal District Court. A booking photo of Torres is attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased male is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Homicide Division Detectives E. Camacho, M. Cater, P. Michon and M. Castillo reported:
Officers responded to a report of a person down at the above address and upon arrival located the victim unconscious in the driver seat of the vehicle. Further investigation determined the male had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and responding paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.
Homicide detectives were able to develop a suspect vehicle description and location. From surveillance video, officers learned the shooting originally occurred in the parking lot at 9905 Mesa Drive. The victim and suspect vehicle met at the location before the suspect attempted to rob the victim. During the struggle the victim was shot and attempted to drive away. While fleeing in his vehicle, the victim struck a pole at the above address.
Detectives continued to search for the suspect vehicle, and with the assistance of the Southeast Patrol Division and the Patrol Support Team, the suspect vehicle was located and the driver, Torres, was detained. When questioned, Torres admitted to his role in the fatal shooting. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges of capital murder against Torres and he was booked into the Harris County Jail.
