Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash Investigation at 9900 South Main Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested for his role in a fatal crash at 9900 South Main Street about 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday (December 30).

The suspect, Silvestre Acevedo (H/m, 63), is charged with driving while intoxicated – second offense – in Harris County Criminal Court #1.  A booking photo of Acevedo is attached to this news release.

The male victim was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.  His identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant P. Lee and Officer M. Burton reported:

The victim was walking westbound across South Main Street at the above address.  While in the middle of the roadway under the West Loop South (West Interstate Highway 610 South) overpass, he was struck by a white Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by suspect Acevedo.

Acevedo remained at the scene and was evaluated for signs of intoxication by an HPD DWI Task Force officer.  He was subsequently arrested and charged with DWI.

The investigation is continuing.
