Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 9500 Clearwood Street

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 9500 Clearwood Street about 12:15 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 11).

The suspect, Jose Martinez Vasquez, 19, is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 263rd State District Court.  A booking photo of Vasquez is attached to this news release.

The identity of the female victim, 26, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer R. Ramos reported:

Witnesses stated the driver (suspect) of a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling northbound on Clearwood Street with another vehicle in front of him driving at the speed limit.  The suspect then passed the vehicle at a high rate of speed and struck a red Toyota Matrix making a left turn onto Tavenor Lane. The Chevrolet and Toyota left the roadway and came to a rest against a fence.  Paramedics pronounced the driver of the Toyota deceased at the scene.

Vasquez, the driver of the Chevrolet was detained and determined to be impaired.  He was subsequently arrested and charged for his role in the crash.
