Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 900 Houston Avenue about 2:35 a.m. on Sunday (Dec. 10).
The suspect, Alex Coleman Loomis (w/m, 29), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 184th State District Court. A photo of Loomis is not available at this time.
The identity of the deceased male victim, 24, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Klementich and Officer E. Clark reported:
A preliminary investigation indicates Loomis was driving a black Nissan Murano at a high rate of speed northbound on Houston Avenue when he ran the red light at the Washington Avenue intersection and struck a silver Ford Fusion, driven by the victim. Firefighters and paramedics arrived, extricated the victim out of the vehicle and then transported him to Ben Taub General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Loomis and the male passenger in the Nissan were taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital where they are expected to survive their injuries. Investigators determined Loomis to be intoxicated and he was subsequently charged. He remains in police custody at the hospital.
