Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in a fatal crash that occurred at 8000 Southwest Freeway (U.S. Highway 59 South) about 2:35 a.m. on Saturday (June 20).
The suspect, Tyson Adam Scott (b/m, 20), is charged with driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #3. A booking photo of Scott is attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased female victim is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer J. Roberson reported:
Scott was driving a white Ford Mustang northbound on the Southwest Freeway when he got into a minor crash with a white Ford Expedition. Scott stopped his vehicle in the main lanes of the freeway and began causing a disturbance with the occupants of the Expedition.
While all persons were standing on the freeway and their vehicles were stopped on the main lanes, the driver of a gray Nissan Altima struck the rear of the Expedition and the Mustang. The Nissan caught fire and an unknown bystander pulled the victim (passenger) out of the vehicle. The driver and another passenger also escaped the Nissan. Both were transported to an area hospital for treatment for burns and other non-life-threatening injuries.
The investigation is continuing to determine who was driving the Altima and if that person was impaired. Both persons gave conflicting statements as to who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
Scott was determined to be intoxicated and he was subsequently charged in the initial crash and disturbance.
