Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash in the 7600 block of Cook Road about 6:35 p.m. on Wednesday (June 11)
The suspect, Isiah Martinez, 19, is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 351st State District Court and driving while intoxicated in Harris County Criminal Court #14. A booking of Martinez is attached to this news release.
The identity of the victim, an 11-month-old male, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant E. Fendia and D. Nguyen reported:
A gray Acura TL was traveling southbound at a high rate of speed at the above address. A gray Nissan Maxima was at a stop sign at the intersection of Corona Lane and Cook Road. The Nissan moved into the intersection and was struck by the Acura. A male infant, in a car seat in the back passenger seat of the Nissan, was ejected from the vehicle. Paramedics pronounced the child deceased at the scene.
The child’s mother, 27, was driving the Nissan and suffered minor injuries.
The driver and passenger of the Acura fled the scene on foot. Officers located the male passenger, 26, and convinced the driver, identified as Isiah Martinez, to return to the scene. Martinez was determined to be impaired and subsequently charged for his role in this incident.
The investigation is continuing.
