Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 7500 Airport Boulevard

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 7500 Airport Boulevard that occurred about 5:50 p.m. on Sunday (August 29).

The suspect, Randolph Lee Carpenter, Jr. (b/m, 58), is charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault in the 183rd State District Court.  A booking photo of Carpenter is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 23, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant G. Clark and Officer W. Smith reported:

The driver of a red Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Airport Boulevard when he struck the rear of a silver Nissan Altima, also traveling eastbound at the above address.   The impact caused both vehicles to remain stuck together as they continued eastbound where the Nissan then struck the rear of a tan Toyota Camry.  The Camry then crossed an esplanade and flipped onto its side.

The driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene.  The Nissan’s female passenger was transported to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center with head trauma and broken legs.  The Camry’s occupants suffered minor injuries and were transported to Clear Lake Regional Hospital.  The driver of the pickup truck, later identified as Carpenter, was evaluated at the scene by a DRE officer and determined to be impaired.  Investigators learned Carter had struck a white Toyota Camry just prior to this crash and was fleeing the scene.
