Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 7200 Lyons Avenue

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash at 7200 Lyons Avenue about 6:05 p.m. on Tuesday (Feb. 6).

The suspect, Nicolas Lopez Martinez, 50, is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 248th State District Court.  A booking photo of Lopez Martinez is attached to this news release.

The victim is identified as Georgia Salas, 65.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant L. Le and Officers M. Alanis and Z. Radcliffe reported:

Ms. Salas, a pedestrian, was walking on the sidewalk at the above address when she was struck by a silver Nissan Rogue leaving a private parking lot.  The driver (Lopez Martinez) fled the scene, but was later apprehended by patrol officers.  Paramedics transported Salas to an area hospital where she was pronounced deceased.

Lopez Martinez was questioned, taken to the Harris County Jail and subsequently charged.  Additional charges are possible, pending the outcome of the investigation.
