Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 7200 Galveston Road about 9:55 p.m. on Wednesday (Feb. 8).
The suspect, Israel Arevalo Cocotl, 34, is charged with felony driving while intoxicated (third offense) in the 183rd State District Court. A booking photo of Arevalo Cocotl is attached to this news release.
The identity of the deceased female, 25, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer K. Johnson reported:
Arevalo Cocotl was driving a black Ford F150 pickup truck southeast at the above address, with the female in the passenger seat. Officers were told Arevalo Cocotl and the female passenger were arguing and she took of her seatbelt and exited the vehicle while it was still moving. The pickup truck struck the female and paramedics pronounced her deceased on the scene.
Officers questioned Arevalo Cocotl, determined he was intoxicated and took him into custody. After consulting with members of the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, he was subsequently charged.
