Houston police have arrested a suspect charged in the fatal crash that occurred at 5500 Bingle Drive about 5 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 9).
The suspect, Jose Arturo Ramos (H/m, 23), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 230th State District Court. A booking photo of Ramos, who remains hospitalized, is not available at this time.
The identity of the male victim, 26, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant S. Jewell and Officers A. Mares and D. Ortega reported:
Ramos was driving a red Dodge Dakota northbound at the above address when he struck a silver Toyota Rav4. The Dodge then went airborne, struck a tree in the median and was deflected back into the Toyota, hitting it a second time.
During the crash, Ramos was ejected from the Dodge. Paramedics transported him to the hospital. His male passenger (victim) was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver, 63, and female passenger, 65, in the Toyota were not injured.
It was determined Ramos showed signs of intoxication and he was subsequently charged.
