Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 5400 Reed Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 5400 Reed Road about 12:20 a.m. today (December 2).

The suspect, Joshua Ced Jones (b/m, 34), is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the176th State District Court.  A booking photo of Jones is attached to this news release.

The identity of the male victim, 55, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene by Houston Fire Department paramedics.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant J. Uribe and Officer D. Hoang reported:

The victim, a bicyclist, was traveling eastbound near the above address when he was struck by a green Honda Civic, driven by Jones.  Jones fled the scene without stopping to provide medical assistance.  Passing motorists saw the victim lying in the roadway and stopped to help.  The witnesses then saw the Honda drive by the scene and noticed it had damage consistent with the crash.  The witnesses followed the vehicle and called police.

HPD patrol officers were advised by witnesses that the Honda was parked in the 5700 block of Sunbeam Street.  Officers went to that address and detained Jones without incident.  Jones was subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
