Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 4800 Westheimer Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal hit-and-run crash in the 4800 block of Westheimer Road that occurred about 12:50 a.m. today (July 31).

The suspect, Joseph Higgins, 30 is charged with failure to stop and render aid in the 183rd State District Court. A booking photo of Higgins is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer D. Thompson reported:

The deceased male was walking across the road and failed to yield the right of way to a white Tesla Model 3 traveling eastbound at the above address. The Tesla struck the male and the driver did not stop to render aid. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

Investigators later located the Tesla and its driver, Higgins, was subsequently arrested and charged. The suspect showed no signs of impairment.
