Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 2200 Katy Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 2200 Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) about 3:35 p.m. on Sunday (Oct. 27).

The suspect, Felix Marcelino Vega (H/m, 37), is charged with intoxication manslaughter in the 174th State District Court.  A booking photo of Marcelino Vega is attached to this news release.

The identity of the female victim, 10, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.  She was pronounced deceased at Texas Children’s Hospital today (Oct. 28).

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant R. Gonzales and Officer D. Jones reported:

Three vehicles – a black Chrysler 200, a black Honda Civic and a white Nissan Versa – were traveling eastbound on the freeway at the above address when the Chrysler struck the rear of the Honda, causing the Honda to hit the Nissan.  The juvenile victim, a passenger in the Honda, was critically injured and transported to the hospital.

The driver (Marcelino Vega) of the Chrysler was determined to be intoxicated and taken into custody at the scene.
