Suspect Arrested, Charged in Fatal Crash at 1100 Almeda Genoa Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 1100 Almeda Genoa Road about 9:55 p.m. on Sunday (June 23).

The suspect, Victor Hugo De La Paz Rivas, 32, is charged with driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age in the 178th State District Court.  A booking photo of De La Paz Rivas is attached to this news release.

The identity of the deceased male is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Rose and Officer T. Johnson reported:

De La Paz Rivas was driving a gray Toyota Tacoma pickup truck at a high rate of speed westbound at the above address when he struck a male pedestrian in a moving lane of traffic.  Paramedics were called and pronounced the pedestrian deceased at the scene.

Two juvenile male passengers – 4 and 7 years of age – in the Toyota were not injured.  De La Paz Rivas showed signs of intoxication and was taken into custody.  He was subsequently charged with a felony and transported to the Harris County Jail.
