Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a fatal crash at 10300 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) service road about 2:10 p.m. on Wednesday (August 7).
The suspect, Joseph Jebbia, 43, is charged with murder in the 174th State District Court. A booking photo of Jebbia is attached to this news release.
The identity of the female victim, 61, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Hall and Officer N. Duval reported:
Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies in an unmarked vehicle with emergency equipment attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a red Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Jebbia, who was wanted on a felony warrant. Deputies followed the suspect to a gas station at Airline Drive and West Mount Houston Road and, as they activated their emergency equipment to conduct the stop, the suspect evaded the deputies at a high rate of speed.
The suspect ran the red light at the intersection of the North Freeway service road and West Road and struck a white Toyota Camry. The driver of the Toyota was not injured. The suspect drove onto the curb and struck a female pedestrian at a bus stop. He then continued driving onto the North Freeway, turned southbound into the northbound lanes and struck the vehicle of the pursuing Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputy, who was not injured. The suspect was eventually stopped and apprehended by Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies in the Willowbrook area.
The female pedestrian was pronounced deceased by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics.
Jebbia, was transported to the Harris County Jail and subsequently charged for his role in the crash.
