Suspect Arrested, Charged in Crash at 12300 Gulf Freeway

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in a crash in which a Houston police officer was injured at 12300 Gulf Freeway (South Interstate Highway 45) service road about 2:25 a.m. on Sunday (May 20).

The suspect, Jeremy Rene Leos (H/m, 27), is charged with intoxication assault-serious bodily injury of a peace officer in the 263rd State District Court.

A booking photo of suspect Leos is attached to this news release.

HPD Officer C. Brothers suffered two broken wrists and was transported to Memorial Hermann Southeast Hospital, where he was treated and released.  Officer Brothers is assigned to the Clear Lake Patrol Division and was sworn in as an officer in January 2017.

HPD Vehicular Crimes Division Sergeant D. Griffiths and Officer F. Flynn reported:

Officer Brothers was investigating a prior accident at the above address and advised the reportee the investigation would have to be moved to a safer location.  As Officer Brothers was placing the reportee in his patrol vehicle and attempted to buckle him in, he heard screeching tires and saw a white Dodge Ram pickup truck heading toward him.  The pickup truck then struck Officer Brothers and his patrol vehicle.  The driver of the pickup truck (Leos) then attempted to flee the scene on foot but was taken into custody with assistance from the HPD K-9 Unit and other responding officers.  Officer Brothers was transported by HFD paramedics to the hospital.  Leos was determined to be intoxicated and subsequently charged.
