Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the assault incident that fatally injured a man at 3940 North McCarty Street about 1:45 p.m. on June 26, 2023.
The suspect, Maximiliano Gamez, 43, is charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury in the 179th State District Court. A booking photo of Gamez is attached to this news release.
The victim is identified as Andres Marroquin, 59.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Stroble and Detective K. Collier and Major Assaults and Family Violence Division Detectives R. Cook and D. Solis reported:
HPD patrol officers responded to a gas station parking lot and found Mr. Marroquin unresponsive. Houston Fire Department paramedics transported him to an area hospital in critical condition.
At that time, investigators learned an unknown male suspect struck Marroquin at least once, causing him to fall to the ground. The suspect then fled the scene in a vehicle.
On November 1, 2023, doctors at Ben Taub General Hospital pronounced Marroquin deceased due to injuries from the assault.
Further investigation identified Gamez as the suspect in this case. On Tuesday (April 9), members of the HPD North Division Crime Suppression Team arrested Gamez and he was subsequently charged for his role in this incident.
