Suspect Arrested, Charged in 2022 Fatal Assault at 18000 McKay Drive

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal assault of a man in the 18000 block of McKay Drive about 11:45 p.m. on July 23, 2022.

The suspect, Hayden Luke Humphreys, 31, is charged with murder in the 351st State District Court. A booking photo of Humphreys is attached to this news release.

He is accused in the death of Rudy Diaz, 38.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant N. Miyako and Detective R. Waterwall reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to an assault call at the above address and were informed by witnesses that Humphreys was seen attacking a wheelchair-bound man, Mr. Diaz. Witnesses detained Humphreys until officers arrived, and he was subsequently arrested and charged with injury to the disabled.

Houston Fire Department paramedics transported Diaz to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased on August 12, 2022.

The Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy and ruled the cause of death as homicide.

On Wednesday (June 14), Humphreys’ charge was upgraded to murder.  He was subsequently taken back into custody on Thursday (June 15).
