Suspect Arrested, Charged, Another Sought in Fatal Shooting at 7500 Cook Road

Charges have been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 7500 Cook Road about 12:55 a.m. on Tuesday (March 18).

The suspect, Fernando  Amaya, 17, is charged with murder, aggravated assault of a family member and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 488th State District Court. A booking photo of Amaya is attached to this news release.

A second unidentified male suspect remains at large.

The identity of the victim, 41, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives A. Finlay and B. Stephens reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a person down call at an apartment complex at the above address and found a man with an apparent gunshot wound outside an apartment.  Officers found an unresponsive man inside the apartment who also had been shot.  Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the man deceased.  The wounded male was transported to an area hospital to be treated for his injuries.

Further investigation and witness statements identified Amaya as a suspect in this incident.  Additional investigation and evidence from the scene determined Amaya and the unidentified suspect arrived and fled in a white full-size SUV of unknown make or model.

Amaya was later arrested at a family member’s residence later the same morning.  The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Amaya was subsequently charged.  The second unidentified suspect remains at-large.
