Houston police have released surveillance video in the fatal shooting of a man at 5400 Fairgreen Lane about 10:50 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 4).

The victim, Sherman Payton, 40, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
HPD Homicide Division Sergeants M. Brady and M. Casso reported:
Mr. Payton was walking eastbound along the roadway at the above address when a silver Lexus SUV pulled up next to him. The driver fired multiple shots and fatally struck Payton.
The suspect’s vehicle, believed be a Lexus RX 350 model, fled eastbound on Fairgreen Lane and turned north onto Martin Luther King Boulevard. The suspect is described only as a light skinned black male with facial hair. At this time, there is no known motive in the shooting.
Detectives were told Payton lived in the area and was walking to a nearby store to pick up some items for his elderly mother who he lived with and cared for.
