Surveillance Photos in Shooting Incident at 4500 Idaho Street

Houston police have released surveillance photos of a wanted vehicle used by a suspect(s) who fired shots at HPD officers at 4500 Idaho Street about 12:40 a.m. today (June 6).

The suspects, described only as two black males, were seen in a white Ford Expedition.  Surveillance photos of the vehicle are attached to this news release.

Officer A. Havelka, who discharged his duty weapon, was not injured in the incident.  Officer Havelka was sworn in as an officer in March 2021 and is assigned to the Southeast Patrol Division.

HPD Special Investigations Unit Sergeant R. Flores, and Detectives J. Kosler, C. Walker and D. Escobar reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a family disturbance near the above address when they heard several gunshots in the area.  One of the officers walked out toward the street to investigate and saw a white Ford Expedition, with two males inside, slowly driving eastbound on Idaho.  The driver then pointed a weapon at the officer.  Fearing for his life, Officer Havelka discharged his duty weapon toward the suspect.  It is unknown at this time if the suspect or the vehicle was struck.  The vehicle sped down the street, but then stopped.  The suspect then fired at least three times at the officer, but he was not struck.  The suspects then fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Anyone with information in this case, the identity of the wanted suspects or on the whereabouts of the wanted vehicle is urged to contact the HPD Special Investigations Unit at 713-308-3600 or speak anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

As is customary in HPD officer-involved shooting incidents in the city limits, this case is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Internal Affairs Division.
