WHAT: Structure Fire in The South Park Area
WHEN: January 3, 2022 at 10:52 a.m.
WHERE: 7700 block of Belbay St. 77033
INJURIES: Multiple deceased animals found.
PROPERTY SAVED: Not available.
DAMAGE: $4.5 thousand in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Under investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find a container with smoke and fire coming out of barred windows, behind a heavily reinforced and locked gate. Bystanders advised that were multiple animals inside the property. Crews made an offensive attack and forced entry. They found multiple cages with deceased animals. All personnel were moved back from the structure once it was determined to be energized by overhead wires. The incident was controlled, and HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. HPD animal cruelty division was also notified. Firefighters from Stations 35, 26, 29, 36, 46, 55 and 24 responded to this incident.
