WHAT: Strip Center Fire.
WHEN: July 14, 2023, at 9:03 p.m.
WHERE: 5499 Kevlin Dr. and Times Blvd, 77005.
INJURIES: One firefighter transported to the hospital for possible heat exhaustion.
PROPERTY SAVED: $3,000,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $1,000,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: Under investigation.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within a minute to find smoke coming from a 2-story strip center and made an offensive attack. A primary search was completed, and the utilities were secured. CenterPoint was also requested. The fire was found in a laundry room and quickly controlled. One firefighter was transported to the hospital for possible heat exhaustion. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. 54 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including crews from Stations 37, 16, 2, 8, 21, 3, 7, 17, 33, 24, and Rehab 8.
