WHAT: School fire.
WHEN: March 27, 2023 at 9:49 a.m.
WHERE: 10410 Manhattan Dr. 77096.
INJURIES: No reported injuries.
PROPERTY SAVED: $10,950,000 in estimated property saved.
DAMAGE: $50,000 in estimated damage.
CAUSE: HFD Arson investigators determined two male juveniles ignited a toilet paper roll. Investigators have identified the juveniles and Arson charges have been accepted.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke coming from the second floor of a middle school. The school staff advised that all students and staff had been accounted for and all had evacuated. Crews located the fire in a bathroom and used a fire extinguisher to put it out. A primary search was completed and two additional HFD units were requested to assist with removing the smoke from the building. HFD remained on scene until the smoke was completely cleared from the school. Firefighters ensured there were no injuries, and the air quality was checked to ensure it was safe for the students and staff to return. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause of the fire. Crews from Stations 82, 21, 68, 17, 37, 48, 28, 59, 80, 37, 57 and 17 responded to this incident.
