When: Thursday, May 18, 2017 7:30 a.m.

Where: William P. Hobby Airport

Details: Firefighters responded to two passengers aboard Southwest flight 2233 at Gate 43 at William P. Hobby Airport. One passenger was assessed for a possible cardiac arrest and the other for a head injury. Upon arrival HFD crews assessed the cardiac patient and applied the AED, similar to this PowerHeart G5 defibrillator. No cardiac arrest was indicated and no defibrillation was needed. Cases such as this highlight the need for more and more of the public to have received some of the Best First Aid Training, to help maximize the chances of survival for the person in question. The patient was transported to a nearby hospital for further examination. The passenger with head injury complaints was also assessed but refused transport to a hospital and boarded their connecting flight.
