HOUSTON, Texas – Municipal Courts Week, a statewide awareness initiative, will commence in Houston November 4-8, 2019, with a week’s worth of activities hosted by the Municipal Courts Department (MCD).
“Municipal Courts Week is a chance to highlight the accessible legal forum that we provide to all in making sure court matters are heard in a fair and efficient manner,” stated Judge J. Elaine Marshall, Director and Presiding Judge of the Municipal Courts Department. “It is also a chance to educate drivers on how following basic traffic safety, such as not speeding, always wearing your seatbelts, or not texting while driving, prevents accidents and saves lives. Houstonians are likely to encounter the judicial system at the Municipal Court level more often than any other court.” said Judge Marshall.
The Houston Public Library and the Houston Health Department will partner with MCD to host Municipal Courts Clinics at Park Place Library and Hiram Clarke Multi-Service Center.
The Municipal Courts Clinics’ purpose is to help people understand how to resolve their court case(s) and outstanding warrant(s). Helpful court and traffic safety information along with promotional items will be distributed at the clinics. The clinics are free of charge and no appointments are necessary. The Administration & Regulatory Affairs – Park Houston will also be on hand to distribute information on parking on Houston streets and in residential neighborhoods. The Court Clinic schedule is as follows:
- Tuesday, November 5th, 10am-2pm, Hiram Clarke Multi Service Community Center – 3810 W. Fuqua St. 77045
- Wednesday, November 6th, 10am-2pm, Park Place Library – 8415 Park Place 77017
Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service Watch UR BAC will also provide a DWI simulator to show the dangers of impaired driving through a video game atmosphere on our Community Day. Other public Municipal Courts Week activities will take place at the Herbert W. Gee Municipal Courthouse at 1400 Lubbock Street throughout the week and will include:
- Juror Appreciation Day, Monday, November 4, 2019.
- Community Day and High School for Law & Justice School Tour Thursday, November 7, 2019 10am – 2pm.
- MCD Employees Appreciation Day, Friday, November 8, 2019.

El Departamento de Juzgados Municipales Celebra la Semana de Juzgados Municipales
HOUSTON, TX – La Semana de Juzgados Municipales, una iniciativa de concientización a nivel estatal, comenzará en Houston del 4 al 8 de noviembre 2019, con una semana de actividades organizadas por el Departamento de Juzgados Municipales (MCD).
“La Semana de Juzgados Municipales es una oportunidad para destacar el foro legal accesible que está disponible para todos y así asegurarnos de que cada caso ante el tribunal sea visto de manera justa y eficaz,” dijo la Juez J. Elaine Marshall, Directora y Juez Principal del Departamento de Juzgados Municipales. “También sirve como una oportunidad para enseñarles a los conductores que siguiendo normas básicas de seguridad vial como no manejar en exceso de velocidad, llevar siempre el cinturón de seguridad puesto, o no escribir textos al manejar, previene accidentes y salva vidas. Es más probable que la gente de Houston tenga contacto con el sistema judicial al nivel municipal que con cualquier otro nivel.” dijo la Juez Marshall.
La Biblioteca Pública de Houston y el Departamento de Sanidad de Houston colaborará con el Departamento de Juzgados Municipales (MCD) para presentar el Taller de Juzgados Municipales en la Biblioteca de la Park Place y en el Centro de Servicios Integrados Hiram Clarke.
El Taller de Juzgados Municipales es para ayudar a comprender los procedimientos a seguir para resolver casos y órdenes de arresto pendientes. Información útil sobre los juzgados y la seguridad vial se distribuirá en los talleres. Los talleres son gratuitos y no hace falta tener cita. Park Houston del Departamento de Administración y Reglamentación estará disponible para distribuir información sobre estacionamiento en las calles y en los vecindarios residenciales de Houston. Watch UR BAC (Cuida el contenido de alcohol en su sangre) de Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service proveerá un simulador del manejo bajo los efectos de alcohol para demostrar el peligro de manejar ebrio a través de un video juego en nuestro Día de la Comunidad. Otras actividades públicas de La Semana de los Juzgados Municipales tendrán lugar en Los Juzgados Municipales Herbert W. Gee en la 1400 Lubbock St. a lo largo de la semana y se incluye:
- El Día de Agradecimiento al Jurado, lunes, 4 de noviembre del 2019.
- El Día de la Comunidad y el Tour de la High School for Law and Justice (Escuela Preparatoria para Derecho y Justicia) jueves, 7 de noviembre del 2019 10am-2pm.
- El Día de Agradecimiento a los Empleados del Departamento de Juzgados Municipales, viernes, 8 de noviembre, 2019.
