Motel Fire in The Spring Branch East Area

WHAT: Motel fire.

WHEN: September 1, 2023, at 5:31 a.m.

WHERE: 5555 W. 34th St. 77092.

INJURIES: No reported injuries.

PROPERTY SAVED: $580,000 in estimated property saved.

DAMAGE: $25,000 in estimated damage.

CAUSE: Under investigation.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Firefighters arrived on scene to find a fire on the second floor of a motel. The fire was lapping onto the walkway ceiling and facial boards. The crews made an attack on the fire and conducted a primary search in the room of origin and nearby rooms. The occupants had self-extricated and were evaluated by HFD EMS. The utilities were secured and HPD was requested for traffic control. Firefighters contained the fire to the room of origin, with the only extension to the walkway and facial boards. HFD Arson investigators were requested to determine the cause and origin. Five occupants were displaced, and the American Red Cross was notified. 36 personnel were dispatched to this incident, including crews from Stations 13, 2, 4, 5, 38, 50, 62, 30 and Rehab 8.
