The Artery was a unique cultural venue in Houston from 1987 to 2013. More than 2,000 artists and presenters performed at over 400 events throughout its operations. The Artery revealed the true nature of art through poetry, dance, music, visual art and much more.
Now the vast video Artery Archives, featuring local and touring artists, will soon be available on the Municipal Channel through a partnership with Houston Television and the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. These episodes, produced by Artery founder Mark Larsen and friends of the Artery, will be air on the Houston Television Channel 16 as well as online. Also, check out the promo for the show. Each episode spotlights the vast array of creative souls who took the stage at this hidden gem.
“Everyone who experienced the Artery remembers it as an incredibly special place,” said Debbie McNulty. “Mark had great foresight to meticulously document the performances held there and we are very grateful to him for partnering with us to share the legacy with a new audience.”
“Thanks to our ideal location in the museum district, our talented (volunteer) production team, and the mesmerizing space itself, we were able to host an incredible array of artistic and civic events,” said Larsen. “For me, it was an honor, the joy of my life. The media from this era extends this adventure.”
“Providing quality programming to the residents of Houston is a part of the core mission of what we do here at Houston Television (HTV),” said HTV manager Ted Irving. “The talented staff at HTV works hard to keep the citizens of Houston informed about their city government and all cultural activities that make up Houston’s past, present and future.”
