Mayor Sylvester Turner sent a letter to the president of the Houston Firefighters Association today inviting him to discuss implementation of Proposition B on January 16, 2019.
Proposition B, which voters passed in November, authorized pay parity between Houston police officers and firefighters, at a cost of more than $100 million annually. But it did not provide a funding source.
The mayor’s invitation follows his public promise to meet with the fire union and other stakeholders, including members of the business community and super neighborhood groups, to listen to suggestions on how to pay the costs without laying off city employees and reducing services to the public.
